What it takes to be listed
- Your business is open and has a Google Business Profile in the right category.
- It is within about 35 km of the city center, so it appears in that city's search.
- It has at least 20 Google reviews.
- Its review-weighted score is in the top 10 for its niche and city.
How the score works
R is your rating, v your number of reviews, C the city average for your niche, and m is 200. With few reviews, your score sits close to the city average. As reviews grow, your own rating counts for more. That is why a 4.8 from 900 reviews beats a 5.0 from 12.
How to move up
- Ask every real customer for a Google review, for example with a link in your follow-up email or text.
- Reply to reviews, good and bad. It shows future customers you care.
- Never buy reviews, offer rewards for them, or only ask happy customers. It breaks Google's rules and can get reviews removed.
Lists are refreshed about every 30 days, so new reviews show up at the next refresh.
